Help Meadowdale teens learn guitar
Boy Scout Nathan Battern of Troop 312 in Edmonds is organizing an acoustic guitar drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Meadowdale High School, 6002 168th St. SW, Lynnwood, as part of his Eagle Scout project.
The drive will benefit a guitar class at Meadowdale High School. The class has no guitars for students to use, so the donations will help students who don’t own guitars to take the class. Donations of guitar strings, picks, wall-hangers and other guitar supplies are welcome.
To arrange for a volunteer to pick up a donation, contact mhsguitars@gmail.com. For more information, visit “MHS Guitar Drive” at Facebook.com.
Flag-flying winners: Clinton Seal, who lives in Everett’s Northwest Neighborhood, started a patriotic competition when he recently asked neighbors to fly U.S. flags. His challenge was featured in Julie Muhlstein’s July 4 column.
After receiving photos and email, and making multiple visits to blocks in the neighborhood north of 19th Street and west of Broadway, Seal determined the winner: The 1800 block of Oakes Avenue had 12 houses flying Old Glory, some with banners and smaller flags, too.
The 1500 block of Rucker Avenue was second, with flags at 10 houses, followed by the 1500 block of Lombard Avenue (six houses) and the 1600 block of Hoyt Avenue (five houses).
Seal, who promised to bake cookies or scones for the winning block, said in the neighborhood’s emailed newsletter, “I hope we can make this a yearly tradition.”
