Mariners re-sign Franklin Gutierrez

The Mariners re-signed outfielder Franklin Gutierrez, the team announced Wednesday. Gutierrez, if healthy, provides the Mariners with a very good outfield glove and a productive outfield bat, two things they need. However, saying "if healthy" when it comes to Gutierrez is a huge qualifier.

Over the last three years, Gutierrez has appeared in only 173 of 486 games, making six different trips to the disabled list. He was productive in limited playing time last year, hitting 10 home runs and seven doubles in 41 games, but the Mariners obviously know there is significant injury risk in this signing.
