By Sharon Wootton
There are no guarantees that a particular lecturer / photographer will wow a crowd, but a National Geographic Live speaker is as close as it gets to a lock.
Explorers, scientists, journalists and photographers, each sharing stories from the front lines of exploration, are coming to Benaroya Hall in Seattle in 2014. Tickets are on sale now.
Video and digital images are part of the show, as is the question-and-answer session afterwards.
Each presentation is at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays.
Here are the speakers:
  • Jan. 12-13-14: Cultural anthropologist Wade Davis will share stories and images of the rugged mountains and valleys of northern British Columbia.
  • March 9-10-11: Emmy Awardwinning filmmakers and wildlife activists Jim and Jamie Dutcher explore the hidden life of wolves, sharing the fascinating stories and stunning images from their years documenting a pack of wolves in Idaho's Sawtooth Wilderness.
  • March 23-24-25: National Geographic photographer Jodi Cobb will present a whirlwind retrospective of her distinguished career, spanning the social and cultural milestones of four decades of global history.
  • April 13-14-15: Photographer Carsten Peter will take the audience on an electrifying journey into our planet's most extreme environments and weather conditions.
  • May 4-5-6: Planetary scientist and astrobiologist Kevin Hand, a National Geographic Emerging Explorer, will give a firsthand report on his ongoing search for life beyond our planet.
