PASCO -- A 60-year-old former Connell councilwoman has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing $160,000 from the farm where she worked as a bookkeeper.
Monica Lou Pruett was sentenced Tuesday. She pleaded guilty Sept. 24 to one count of first-degree theft.
The Tri-City Herald reported that a Superior Court judge also ordered Pruett to pay approximately $160,000 in restitution.
She was the bookkeeper for D & S Farms in Mesa for more than seven years. Prosecutors say she stole the money to cover personal utility bills, property taxes and business expenses.
Pruett was Connell's mayor pro tem when she was charged in 2012. She soon resigned.
