EVERETT -- A Marysville man was arrested for investigation of assault after allegedly approaching his parents and a police officer and hurling a knife at them.
In an affidavit, a police officer described the confrontation with the suspect, 30, who reportedly suffers from schizophrenia. The arrest occurred Friday morning in the 6500 block of 65th Place NE.
The man's parents called police to report they left their house because their son was throwing things around. The man's mother said he choked her.
The officer found his parents in a car in front of the home.
During their conversation, the father cut him off to warn: "There he is, with a knife."
The officer turned to see the son staring at his parents. The man had a knife in his right hand with the blade open.
The officer told the parents to come his way so he could protect them.
The suspect then allegedly ran toward the trio at full speed.
The officer called for backup.
The suspect was "closing distance faster than I can draw my weapon," the officer wrote.
He yelled to the parents to run, pointing behind the police car where all three took cover.
The officer pulled out his handgun and the suspect stopped about 25 feet away.
The man then allegedly threw his knife, missing the officer by about two feet, before assuming a fighting stance with fists clenched slightly below his belt line
The officer yelled four times at the man to get onto the ground, according to the police report.
Only after a second officer arrived did the man comply.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of three counts of assault. His bail is $100,000.
