Seahawks set 53-man roster

Winfield to retire; Seattle acquires DT Smith from Jaguars

  • Cornerback Antoine Winfield, who the Seahawks signed in the offseason, plans to retire.

    Associated Press

Cornerback Antoine Winfield, who the Seahawks signed in the offseason, plans to retire.

The Seahawks just announced their roster cuts, as well as the trade of a conditional draft pick to Jacksonville for DT D'Anthony Smith. Smith, a third-round pick in 2010, has appeared in just eight games, all last season, because of injuries.

Also of note aside from the cuts, defensive end Chris Clemons will start the season on the active roster, not the Physically Unable to Perform list.

The two biggest names on the list are ones we already knew, FB Michael Robinson and CB Antoine Winfield, who according to a tweet from head coach Pete Carroll, plans to retire. Also of note was that Seattle released TE Sean McGrath, meaning they currently only have two TEs on the roster. That would seem to indicate that the Seahawks will look to add another tight end via waivers this weekend.

Here's the full list of roster moves.
