EVERETT -- Police believe a Lake Stevens man was driving a stolen car in July when he allegedly crossed the centerline of a road in Edmonds and caused a head-on crash that broke the other driver's neck.
The suspect, 18, whose street name is "Hazard," was arrested late last week for investigation of vehicular assault and other charges, including being involved in a hit-and-run injury accident, possession of a stolen vehicle and possessing methamphetamine.
The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. July 8 near the intersection of 76th Avenue W. and 231st Street SW.
Edmonds police said the suspect was driving a 2012 Chrysler 300 sedan; the other driver, whose age and hometown were not available, was in a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect help a 16-year-old girl get out of the passenger seat before running off. Her nose was broken in the crash. Officers and a police dog searched for the suspect but could not find him.
The car had been reported stolen from Seattle a week earlier, according to a police report. The back license plate also was reported stolen in a separate theft.
The girl and a boy, 14, ran away but were found near the crash scene.
After getting a search warrant, police found meth in the car and determined that the vehice was travelling above the speed limit at the time of the crash.
The suspect was arrested by Seattle police Friday and turned over to the Edmonds Police Department.
Police said the man also could face charges for possessing stolen property, identity theft, burglary and possessing drug paraphernalia.
The stolen car had a value of more than $24,000 before the crash, according to a police report.
Police said they recovered stolen identification, checks and credit cards.
The suspect remains in the Snohomish County Jail on $100,000.
