Spolier alert: ‘Abbey’ is running late

Think of it as a three-month-long pledge break: PBS has decided not to air the latest season of "Downton Abbey" this fall when the popular period drama is shown in the United Kingdom. PBS instead will wait until January to broadcast the first episode of the fourth season, again leaving fans at risk of hearing spoilers.

Not surprisingly, PBS has worked this to its advantage: Pledge at the $50 level and you'll receive a free Downton Abbey Season 4 Commemorative Spoiler Alert.

Guy better get a good tip: A newspaper carrier riding his bicycle in Columbus, Ohio, saved 11 people, including six children, when he smelled smoke and alerted residents at 5 a.m. that their house was on fire.

We all better hope that Jeff Bezos, founder and the new owner of the Washington Post, figures out how to save newspapers, because you don't hear much about bloggers saving people from burning buildings.

Don't know much about history: On this day in 1842, the United States and Canada resolved a border dispute by signing the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, which reaffirmed the border along the 49th parallel.

Treaty negotiators agreed to the 49th parallel because it reflected the dividing line that already existed with Dunkin' Donuts shops to the south and Tim Horton's to the north.
