SULTAN -- The city of Sultan is hosting its fourth annual Safety Fair at the Downtown River Park on Saturday.
Mayor Carolyn Eslick said the event is made possible in part through a state Justice Assistant Grant and the efforts of the participating agencies.
"As Mayor, I'm proud to be part of an event that teaches our children to be safe and have fun at the same time." Eslick said in a statement.
The goal of the Safety Fair is for children and adults to have fun while learning about hazards and steps they can take to protect themselves and their families.
The fair is to be held from noon to 4 p.m. It is free and everyone is welcome.
This year's event promises several new activities, such as a 911 practice telephone and a simulated "smoke house" that will teach children and adults how to escape a smoke-filled house.
Snohomish County Search and Rescue will bring the rescue hovercraft and and the search and rescue helicopter to the park. The helicopter is to arrive at 1 p.m.
McGruff, the crime-fighting dog mascot, will be there, along with information on gun safety; child ID cards and fingerprinting; fire department safety displays; bicycle registration, an inspection and safety rodeo; and tours of the Department of Emergency Management command vehicle.
The annual event is sponsored by the city, Snohomish County Fire District 5, Sheriff's Office, Search and Rescue, Washington State Patrol, Sultan School District and Frontier Communications.
