FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- A standoff between Alaska State Troopers and an armed man forced the closure of the Richardson Highway in Salcha for hours early Wednesday.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says troopers were called to the home at about midnight. The standoff ended with the man being taken into custody at about 7 a.m.
Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen says emergency vehicles remained in the area because the house was set on fire and then became fully engulfed. She says investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.
Troopers stopped traffic on the highway between Mile 320 and Mile 324 as a precaution. The home sits about 165 feet from the highway.
