UPDATE, 9:30 a.m. Friday: Mount Vernon police on Thursday night arrested a man for investigation of manslaughter in this case. They believe the suspect and the victim were involved in a shooting in Mount Vernon on Monday. It's still not clear how or why they ended up in Arlington.
ARLINGTON -- A body found in a car at the Arlington Haggen parking lot on Thursday is believed to be connected to a police incident in Mount Vernon earlier this week.
Police did not release the age and gender of the person, whose body was found in the passenger seat.
"We're obviously treating this as a suspicious death," Mount Vernon police Lt. Chris Cammock said.
Arlington police were assisting Mount Vernon police in looking for the car, which was found about 3 p.m. Thursday.
On Monday, Mount Vernon police investigated a shots-fired call near a house along Anderson Road. Nothing suspicious was found, Cammock said.
The next day, someone who lives in the house found blood and called police, Cammock said.
Mount Vernon police developed information in the case and began searching for the car, Cammock said.
The body was expected to be transferred to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office, which will confirm identification and determine the cause of death.
Washington State Patrol crime-scene specialists will help search the car for evidence on Friday.
No additional details were released. The grocery store parking lot is at the corner of Highway 9 and 204th Street NE.
