Gun violence

Obama brave to try something

SHARE: facebook Twitter icon Linkedin icon Google+ icon Email icon |  PRINTER-FRIENDLY
I feel compelled to write to give praise and say thanks to President Barack Obama for having the courage to do something about this current epidemic of violence that is attributed to firearms in this nation. It was and is a bold move, and I sure hope Congress will do the right thing and ban military-style assault weapons. I am skeptical about that because of the influence of the NRA, but I am still optimistic that they will realize lives are worth more than political points.
Assault weapons should only be used in war, and should not be available because we as a country have seen far too many times when they fall into the hands of evil people who are intent on killing as many individuals as they can. It keeps happening over and over again, and now is the time for action. This could be the type of action that leads us to more peace throughout this nation.
Also, all the people who say that Obama is taking away guns, learn the facts. I can still go out and buy a gun because I am not a convicted felon and I should be able to. I just don't understand why military-style assault weapons need to be available. They are designed to kill, and I am sure many hunters would agree that they are unnecessary when hunting. I know many people won't agree with me, but I remain optimistic and hopeful that many people do. Thank you.
