NEW ORLEANS -- Tulane has received an NCAA national letter of intent from junior-college quarterback Nick Montana, the son of Hall-of-Fame NFL quarterback Joe Montana.
The younger Montana threw for 2,652 yards and 22 touchdowns this past season at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.
Montan transferred to Mount San Antonio after spending two seasons at the University of Washington. He redshirted as a freshman, then lost a battle for the starting QB job to Keith Price the following year.
Tulane said the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Montana, who has two years of eligibility remaining , is enrolling this spring, meaning he'll be able to participate in spring practice and compete for the starting job next fall.
Green Wave coach Curtis Johnson said bringing Montana in was among his top goals for what will be his second recruiting class.
Nick Montana said Johnson's system is a good fit. He said Tulane's academic standards are also important to him as he pursues a business degree.
