Seahawks' Tate fined for block on Cowboys' Lee

A lot has been made of the huge block Golden Tate put on Dallas linebacker Sean Lee in Sunday's win over the Cowboys, and apparently the league didn't like the play.

No penalty was called on the block, which helped spring Russell Wilson for a 14-yard gain, but today Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Tate has been fined $21,000, the minimum amount for a blindside hit. Not long after the report came out, Pete Carroll was on Sports Radio KJR with Dave Mahler, and he confirmed the fine, though he added that Tate will appeal, hoping to at least get the fine lowered.

Carroll told Mahler that Tate's intent was good, that he targeted Lee in the chest (Lee is considered a defenseless player on blocks like that, and defenseless players can't be hit in the head or neck area) but while most of the blow went to Lee's chest, the top of Tate's helmet did get under Lee's chin. Though it should be noted that Lee himself told reporters after the game that he did not get hit in the head or chin.
