Last year, a tough economy and high performance rental costs kept members of the Brookfield-Jordan Vocal Studio from taking the stage.
This year, the show will go on.
This will be the 15th year for the Brookfield-Jordan Vocal recital, which is much more than a standard recital with some jazz, opera and musical theater thrown in.
The musical theater portion will be an abbreviated version of the Schmidt and Jones classic off-Broadway musical, "The Fantasticks."
"We are so privileged to have a remarkably talented cast," Sherri Brookfield-Jordan said.
The evening's entertainment kicks off with "Beautiful Candy" sung by the powerhouse Marcella Corwin, 11.
Jazz specialist, Taylor Zicafoose, who just returned from Japan as a guest artist, will perform and is "the best scat-er" Brookfield-Jordan has ever heard.
The first act will also include the finale of Bellini's "Norma," a tragic opera.
This act stars veteran recitalists Melissa Sturgis-Peterson and sister Melinda Viscalla and talented newcomer tenor, Chris Maley.
A scene from Kurt Weill's masterpiece, "Street Scene" will also be performed by Mina Barakatain and Chris Steckler. "Street Scene" is a Broadway musical with classic Broadway style tunes along with jazz and blues influences.
Chris Maley and Laura Blythe will sing "Four Schubert lieder."
The "piece du resistance" of the first act will be the tenor/baritone duet from "The Pearl Fishers" sung by Chris and Gary Jordan, Brookfield-Jordan said.
"The Fantasticks," the allegorical show about two neighbors who trick their children into marriage, will be brought to life by local singers Helen Anderson, Caleb Thompson, Ashley Tompson, Chris Steclker, Nadya Tesar and Kristine Blythe. The all-important "wall" will be played by Emily Keefe with narration by Ashley Thomson.
The 15th Brookfield-Jordan Vocal recital starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mukilteo Presbyterian Church, 4514 84th St.SW, Mukilteo.
Donations will be accepted.
