SILVANA -- Local firefighters will serve breakfast Wednesday at Willow & Jim's Country Cafe in Silvana.
Proceeds from the annual fundraiser will help support the volunteer firefighter association for Snohomish County Fire District 19, firefighter Whitney Wetzel said.
"We serve breakfast. We take the orders. We grab drinks," she said.
Breakfast is planned from 7 a.m. to noon at the restaurant, 1421 Pioneer Highway.
People who come to eat can chat with the fire crews and learn more about what they do, Wetzel said. The firefighters also like to meet people who live in the fire district when there's no emergency -- and time to talk.
"They get to see us as normal people in the community," Wetzel said. "You drive past the fire department, and you don't really know who's in there or what's going on. It's a good opportunity for us to go to them."
There also will be fire vehicles for people to check out.
The Silvana firefighters association uses funds for firefighting-related expenses such as water rescues, fire debris cleanup and firefighter memorials, Wetzel said.
