MONROE -- If Snohomish wished to advance in the 4A District 1 softball tournament, they would need to win twice on Thursday afternoon. The Panthers had no problem accomplishing this goal by defeating Kamiak 10-0 in their first game and Cascade 11-1 in the loser-out game that followed.
Snohomish was paced by starting pitcher Jennie Winston in the days final consolation game. Winston batted 3-for-3 with four RBI and pitched a complete game two-hitter to guide her team to victory.
"Jennie was outstanding today," said Snohomish coach Lou Kennedy. "You don't often see a pitcher have a hitting performance like she did today, but she did. Her pitching was phenomenal, too. She didn't have a lot of strikeouts but her pitches all had great movement today."
The Snohomish bats were hot from the very beginning in the teams second game. A bases-clearing double from Anna Pisac gave the Panthers an early 3-1 lead. Freshman catcher Emily Greenlee would drive in Pisac with a single. Greenlee would later score in the inning.
"Emily is a very impressive and quick kid," said Kennedy. "She's our second fastest kid on the team, which you don't often see from a catcher. Watching her for the next three years is going to be a lot of fun."
With the win, Snohomish moves on in districts, and gets one more shot at advancing to the 4A tournament with a winner-to- state, loser-out game against the number three seed from KingCo at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
