NEWPORT -- Two Spokane men were found dead after they got into a fight at a remote campground in northeastern Washington where a group of people had been drinking, authorities said Monday.
The incident occurred early Sunday at an undeveloped campground on Yocum Lake, about 10 miles south of Ione.
Steven Divine, 22, had been stabbed, while Richard R. Hill, 18, had been shot, authorities said.
About 10 people, ages 18 to 24, had been drinking when the fight broke out between the two men, Pend Oreille County Sheriff Alan Botzheim said.
The sheriff blamed alcohol consumption.
"If you subtracted the alcohol, this wouldn't have occurred," Botzheim said.
"There was just an argument over a vehicle that backed into Steven Divine's vehicle," he added. "He was upset over that and that's what started the argument."
Only Divine and Hill were involved in the fight, and there were no other suspects, although the investigation was continuing, Botzheim said.
