MONROE -- Detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a Monroe woman whose body was discovered Sunday in her back yard.
Police were summoned around 4 a.m. to a report of an unconscious woman at a home in the 400 block of W. Maple Street, a residential street south of U.S. 2.
Her boyfriend's son called 911 after his girlfriend went outside to retrieve their dog and discovered the woman lying in the yard, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said.
The woman, whom police have identified as Jacqueline A. Rothenbuhler, had signs of trauma to her body. Police are calling her death suspicious.
Monroe detectives and investigators with the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team were called to the scene to collect evidence and talk with the people living in the home.
Officers also were canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious Saturday night.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to determine how the 59-year-old woman died. Her family has been notified, Willis said.
No other details about the investigation were immediately available Sunday.
Anyone who had contact with Rothenbuhler or has information about her death, is asked to call the Monroe Police Department at 360-794-6300. Anonymous information also may be left on the department's tip line at 360-863-4600.
