Thanks to the snow and ice storm that hit the region this week, the Seattle Sounders' offseason became a day longer.
The Major League Soccer team canceled what was supposed to be its first preseason training session Thursday because of hazardous travel conditions.
The team will try to kick off its preseason today.
Already Sounders FC had decided to move its first week of training from its usual facilities at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila to the Seattle Seahawks' indoor field at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton. Sounders FC is now scheduled to train at the VMAC today and Saturday before heading to Arizona, then Florida for better preseason weather.
When Seattle does get its preseason under way, coaches will be taking a look at seven rookies added in the league's two drafts, as well as several other new additions. Among the most anticipated returns will be that of winger Steve Zakuani, who missed almost all of last season with a broken leg.
Sounders FC opens MLS play March 17, but prior to that will play two games -- on March 7 and 14 -- in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal.
