MISSOULA, Mont. -- University of Montana assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Mike Breske says he is joining Washington State's coaching staff as defensive coordinator.
The Missoulian reported Brekse confirmed his hiring Sunday evening.
Brekse says he interviewed with WSU coach Mike Leach over the weekend and accepted the job. No formal announcement has come from Washington State or the University of Montana.
He also was an assistant at Montana for the past two seasons, helping the Griz advance to the Football Championship Subdivision semifinals this season.
He was defensive coordinator at North Dakota State in 2009, was assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Wyoming from 2003-08, and served in the same post at Montana from 2000-02. Montana won its second national title in 2001.
