'Pledge to America' author to stump for Koster

The man credited with drafting the House Republicans' "Pledge to America" will be in Skagit County early Monday for a fund raiser with congressional candidate John Koster.

U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Ca., will headline a $50-a-person breakfast event at Skagit Valley's Farmhouse Restaurant in Mount Vernon.

McCarthy is getting a lot of attention of late for penning the 45-page pledge. He talks about its content here on NPR.

He is also one of the founders of the Young Guns program that's become an important vehicle for the National Republican Congressional Committee to identify and support GOP candidates this fall.

Koster is challenging Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wa., in the 2nd District. The closeness of the race is earning Koster visits from some of the party's D.C. insiders.

This Friday, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is coming to town. In late September, Congressman Pete Sessions of Texas, the chairman of the NRCC, attended a Whatcom County event with Koster.
